Prevention is the best way to avoid Teenage Pregnancy. Teenagers need to have comprehensive understanding and knowledge about abstinence, contraceptive techniques, and the consequences. However, the best and most effective way to prevent it is simply not having sex.

Adoption

Adoption is an option for many teenage mothers with reasons like not being able to support the child, wanting to pursue own goals as a teenager, etc. However, there are Pros and Cons of adoption.

  • Pros

  1. The birth mother can choose the adoptive parents of the child

  2. It is an opportunity to give the child the best life they could have 

  3. Peace of mind for the safety and security of the child

  4. A chance for the teenage birth mother to pursue own goals

  • Cons

  1. Birth mothers have no legal rights to their adopted birth children

  2. Going though grief process in the long-term

  3. Possibility of regretting the choice for adoption

  4. Some wont understand and respect the choice for adoption

TEENAGE PREGNANCY RATE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Teenage pregnancy affects 5.99 percent of Filipino girls which is the second-highest rate in Southeast Asia based on Save the Children's Global Childhood Report (2019). An estimated 538 babies are born to Filipino teenage mothers every single day, according to Philippine Statistical Authority (2017)
